The property ombudsman
The property ombudsman (TPO) , since 1990 has been providing consumers with an alternative dispute resolution and provide compensation awards of up to maximum of £25,000. TPO is the ultimate government approved scheme to provide independent redress and any reputable estate agent would have membership at a minimum.
The association of residential lettings agents
The association of residential lettings agents (ARLA Propertymark) is the UK’s leading professional body for lettings and property management agents. From business owners to employees they ensure compliance and up to date professional knowledge. As advisors to RoPA (regulation of property agents working group) they recommend all estate agency staff delivering ‘reserved activities’ should hold a level 3 qualification at a minimum.

It is mandatory that estate agents ensure tenants, landlords and other agent client’s money is protected. In the event of a worst-case scenario, eg – the agent goes into administration, misuses, rent, deposit or other funds, our client money protection membership safeguards our customers and our client account is independently inspected annually with consumers having recourse through ARLA.
